7.3.5 Biological Effects That Have Not Been Established
Research has investigated cancer, reproductive and neurological effects, immune-system changes, symptoms, and numerous proposed non-thermal mechanisms. Measurable responses have sometimes been reported under particular experimental conditions, but many findings have not been consistent across studies, independently reproduced, or linked convincingly with impaired health.
Such findings are not dismissed; they remain part of the evidence considered in systematic reviews and may identify priorities for further research. They are not used as the basis for a health restriction, however, until the overall evidence supports an adverse effect with sufficient confidence. Section 7.4 explains how that evidence is evaluated.
