10.4.9 Manufacturers And Equipment Suppliers
Manufacturers and suppliers also contribute to RF radiation safety.
Designers, manufacturers, and suppliers should eliminate or minimize foreseeable RF hazards through design, comply with applicable requirements, and provide the technical information needed for safe installation, operation, maintenance, and exposure assessment. This includes source characteristics, antenna information, maximum operating conditions, maintenance precautions, and any required separation or control arrangements.
10.4.10 Shared Responsibility
Although responsibilities differ between individuals, effective RF radiation safety depends upon cooperation between all parties.
Managers, source owners and operators, engineers, supervisors, workers, contractors, equipment suppliers, and visitors each contribute to the program. Communication, worker consultation, cooperation, and coordination are therefore as important as technical competence. Overlapping duties should be documented so that no safety activity is omitted.
10.4.11 Summary
An effective RF radiation safety program defines responsibilities throughout the organization and among external parties. Senior management provides leadership and resources, the Responsible Person manages each Controlled Area, engineers design and assess safe systems, supervisors implement safe work, and workers participate in consultation and follow the controls. Contractors, visitors, source owners and operators, and equipment suppliers must also cooperate and coordinate according to their duties.
