7.10 LOOKING AHEAD

This chapter has connected internal fields and energy absorption with biological response and the adverse effects that RF exposure restrictions are intended to prevent. Applying that knowledge to a real installation requires suitable methods for characterizing the external field and, where necessary, estimating quantities that cannot be measured directly in a person.

Chapter 8 examines RF safety assessment in practice. It considers measurement instruments, near-field and far-field methods, source-specific assessment strategies, computational modeling, uncertainty, and the interpretation of results. Chapter 9 then addresses the standards and regulatory frameworks against which those results are evaluated.
