10.9.4 Exclusion Zone Marking
Locations above the occupational limits, and any additional site-defined exclusion zones, should be clearly delineated and made inaccessible while the specified source state applies. Depending on the installation, delineation may use:
- warning signs;
- painted floor markings;
- painted roof markings;
- barrier chains;
- temporary fencing;
- permanent fencing;
- rope barriers;
- colored posts; or
- physical barriers.
The selected method should be visible, unambiguous, suitable for the environment, and sufficiently robust to remain effective under the operating and weather conditions.
A temporary exclusion zone established for maintenance, testing, or commissioning should state the source state and access conditions on which it depends and should be removed promptly when the work and temporary hazard have ended.
10.9.5 Rooftop Installations
Rooftop antennas present particular access challenges because building-maintenance personnel and contractors may not routinely recognize the RF sources or know which organization controls them.
Rooftop access points should therefore provide clear RF hazard information and direct people to the Responsible Person or the site's access procedure before they enter a Controlled Area.
Where exposure-limit boundaries or exclusion zones occur on the roof, markings, barriers, or other controls should allow people to identify the permitted route and the limits of authorized access.
10.9.6 Tower And Mast Installations
A tower or mast may support several transmitting systems under different ownership and control, and exposure conditions may change with height.
Signs should be provided at the base and, where necessary, at intermediate access points so that climbers encounter the relevant warning and source-state requirements before reaching the affected area.
At shared structures, the site owner, source operators, contractors, and Responsible Person should coordinate the signage so that instructions and contact details are consistent and cover every source that can affect the work.
