10.5.9 Site Inspections

One of the most effective methods of identifying RF hazards is a structured site inspection.

Regular inspections allow engineers and supervisors to verify that warning signs remain in place, barriers have not been removed, controlled areas remain appropriately marked, antennas have not been modified, and no new conductive structures have introduced previously unidentified hazards.

Site inspections should include consultation with workers and contractors, who may identify changing work practices, temporary sources, access conditions, or practical hazards not evident from drawings or previous assessments.

10.5.10 Summary

Hazard identification requires systematic consideration of RF sources, maximum operating conditions, exposure locations, person categories, simultaneous sources, direct RF effects, indirect contact-current and burn hazards, reflections and reradiation, maintenance tasks, and workplace change. Because RF fields cannot normally be detected by human senses, the process depends on engineering information, worker consultation, current documentation, and structured site inspection.
