6.8 PRODUCTION AN ‘EXECUTIVE SUMMARY’ CONCEPT MAP

The process of producing an ‘Executive Summary’ concept map follows from the creation of the subgroup maps. The nominal ‘executive’ group is provided with concepts from each of the subgroups. For this activity, a variant of the group modelling workshop methodology developed by Anderson and Richardson (1997) is followed. See Section 6.5. The executive summary is not produced with the aim of producing a definitive algamation of subgroup maps. It is produced with the intent of determining the scope and nature of the problem and identifying where to apply management effort. It may be possible to develop remedial strategies based on this concept map. However, further investigation is generally required, as described in Section 6.14 onwards. During the development of the executive summary concept map, decisions are taken to selectively include or exclude concepts, to restate them and to work at a higher-level aggregation.
