12.8.7 Travelling Wave Antennas—Inverted-V Antenna

Figure 12.29 shows the design of an inverted-V antenna, which is a travelling-wave antenna with high gain. It is a broadband antenna that requires a lot of space, but only one mast. It is an excellent antenna for static locations. The antenna is end-fed with a 300-Ω termination and, if the dimensions are correct, lobe A adds to C and lobe B cancels the reflection of D from the ground. On flat ground the antenna radiates mainly surface wave, but can be used to generate space wave if erected on a hill. The inverted-V antenna can also be used at HF although a high mast is required.
