12.8.2 Dipole Antennas
For higher efficiency and longer ranges, the half-wave vertical dipole is cheap and quick to erect and dismantle. The only design constraints include anchoring of the ends of the dipole with non-conductive material (string or halyard) and the coaxial feeder should, if practicable, extend at right angles to the antenna for at least a quarter of a wavelength. A dipole radiates mainly space wave and is omnidirectional.
