Cognition

Cognition is the faculty of knowing, perceiving and conceiving (conceptualising). Cognition is taken to mean a capacity that emerges along with consciousness as the awareness of managerial choice. This consciousness occurs at the implicit level, where judgement is being exercised, just as it does at the higher levels where deliberate and conscious choices are made. The key to cognition lies in the development of consciousness (Eden and Spender, 1998: 34) or situation awareness (Klein, 1998). Also see situation awareness.
