Franklin’s Rule

Franklin’s Rule, named after US President Benjamin Franklin, is a choice and decision-making technique which involves identifying all relevant factors then applying weightings to each on the basis of their considered importance. The idea behind this technique is that the decision that might be made will take into account all the relevant prevailing factors according to their importance or their perceived influence on the problem. Underlying Franklin’s Rule are certain assumptions regarding the factors and weightings. Both factors and weightings are assumed to be numerical and dimensionless, and can be multiplied.
