9.2.11 Receiver Summary
From antenna input to audio output, every stage of the receiver shapes its sensitivity, selectivity, and fidelity. Although the technology has progressed from crystal detectors to fully digital SDRs, these core objectives have not changed. Modern receivers—especially SDR and adaptive designs—deliver them with far greater precision and flexibility while retaining the superheterodyne’s essential principles. In short, the evolution from passive detection to digitally adaptive architectures has extended dynamic range, improved interference resilience, and increased spectral efficiency while preserving the essential principle of frequency translation that underpins modern receiver design.
