Slant Range

Slant range is the straight-line distance between an Earth station and a satellite, measured along the line of sight. It depends on the Earth station location, the satellite orbit, and the elevation, and varies with time for non-geostationary satellites. Slant range is a key parameter in determining free-space path loss and signal propagation delay.
