Satellite Broadcasting
Satellite broadcasting refers to satellite communication systems that distribute broadcast content, such as television and radio programs, from a central transmitting Earth station to a large number of receive-only Earth stations. The satellite acts as a wide-area distribution platform, enabling the same content to be delivered simultaneously over very large geographic regions.
Because receive terminals are passive and do not transmit, satellite broadcasting systems are optimized for one-way transmission and typically use high satellite transmit power and simple, low-cost user antennas. Satellite broadcasting is widely used for direct-to-home television and regional or national broadcast services.
