Service Live Enhancement Program (SLEP)

The Service Life Enhancement Program (SLEP) was an upgrade initiative applied to the final four of the fourteen DSCS III satellites to extend operational capability and increase system capacity. The SLEP modifications included higher-power amplifiers, improved receiver sensitivity, and enhanced antenna connectivity, resulting in substantially greater throughput and flexibility compared with earlier DSCS III spacecraft. These enhancements allowed the upgraded satellites to support increased traffic demands and improved link performance late in the DSCS III program.
