Prograde Orbit

A prograde (or direct) orbit is one in which a non-synchronous satellite moves in the same direction as the Earth’s rotation, corresponding to an inclination of less than 90°. A retrograde (or indirect) orbit is one in which the satellite moves opposite to the Earth’s rotation, corresponding to an inclination greater than 90°, and exhibits an apparent westward motion relative to the Earth’s surface.
