Forward Error Correction (FEC)

Using forward error correction (FEC), the satellite communications receiver can correct errors itself without reference to the transmitter. It does so by using additional information transmitted along with the data and employing one of the forward error correction and detection techniques. Using FEC, the satellite communications receiver can correct a small number of the errors that have been detected. If the satellite communications receiver cannot correct all detected errors, the data must be re-transmitted.
