Downlink

The downlink in satellite communications is the signal from the satellite transponder to a satellite Earth station, which is transmitted by the transponder and received by the Earth station. In satellite communications the overall link budget is a combination of the link budget for the uplink and the downlink. The downlink typically operates at a lower frequency than the uplink to reduce propagation loss and rain attenuation.
