Beam Shaping

In many cases, the Earth coverage area from a spaceborne antenna is required to be irregular to focus on high-density population areas, to avoid sparsely populated areas such as deserts and oceans, or to avoid interference with adjacent regions. Shaped coverage can be achieved by shaping the reflector in parabolic antennas or through the use of phased arrays or multibeam antennas (or some combination).
