6 REFLECTIONS UPON THE STRUCTURE OF THE SCIENTIFIC PROJECT

This essay has single-mindedly pursued the question concerning the strangeness of quantum theory. Our attempt to understand why that theory had to be so strange forced us to consider the structure of the modern scientific project which, having been started by Bacon, Galileo, and Descartes, eventually gave birth to it. An exhaustive consideration of that project is however too large a subject to undertake here. We would nevertheless like to gather together the main insights we had gained along the way concerning the structure of it and then reflect upon the implications of those insights on three ontological issues: the reality of quantum objects, the place man occupies within the structure of the modern scientific project, and the degree of truth that is contained in its theories.
