13.1 TYPES OF TRANSMISSION

Communication systems normally utilize one of three basic types of transmission:

• Simplex transmission in which a transmission path can carry information in one direction only.
• Half-duplex transmission in which a transmission path can carry information in both directions but in only one direction at a time.
• Full-duplex transmission in which a transmission path can carry information in both directions simultaneously.
