A warning sign communicates limited information at a boundary or point of work. Training provides the understanding and judgment needed to apply the RF Radiation Safety Plan, recognize changing source and access conditions, and respond correctly when the planned basis no longer applies.

Why Do Workers Still Need Training If the Site Has Warning Signs?

At first glance, it might seem that warning signs provide all the information a worker needs.

If a sign warns of RF fields and identifies a Controlled Area, why is additional training necessary?

The answer is that a warning sign communicates only a very limited amount of information. Safe work requires people to understand not only that a hazard exists, but also why it exists, how it is controlled, and what actions they must take to avoid unnecessary exposure.

Training provides this understanding.

A Warning Sign Identifies the Hazard

The primary purpose of an RF warning sign is to alert people before they enter a potentially hazardous area.
